The Blue Chair in the Corner
Overthinking Everything is an exploration of ambiance, lo-fi hip-hop, and solo piano that I released in April 2020. If you enjoy any of those genres, or if you'd like to support my musical endeavors, I highly recommend checking it out on Bandcamp! There are extra tracks not released on other platforms available on Bandcamp, and you can make a small donation it you wish.
Most of my solo piano work is born out of a small idea that grows into a larger piece in my head over time. Wonder began with a simple two note pattern that I wanted to slowly morph over time, capturing how drifting thoughts can often extend further than intended, before returning to where they started.
Waltz in E Minor originated as a simple melody I played on a real harpsichord, and stuck in my mind for weeks - until I finally finished the piece on my piano at home.
I don't often have time to sit and write orchestral music for my own entertainment, but I've written enough unfinished pieces for shows I've worked on, that I keep a folder dedicated to ideas worth completing later. The short preview here is one such piece that didn't quite fit into the final show, but I've come back to several times for polishing.
One of my foremost goals as a composer is to finish and record an original musical. Part of that journey for myself involves practicing writing in the style of the composers I am drawn to musically - in order to find my own voice separate from them.
In the spirit of my own practice and education, I'm currently working on a song cycle in my spare time. As the pieces come together, I eventually plan to hold a public performance - though there is much work to be done between now and then. The pieces sampled here are a small selection of the 14-song album.
